How do we improve for 2012?

November 17, 2011

Since Hiking Michigan has been growing rapidly over the last 3 years of it’s 13 years in existence, we are adjusting to these growing pains. With over 4,000 members in the 8 counties that comprise S.E. Michigan, how do you S.E.MI. members think we can improve, adjust or change our Hikes?

1. 15 minute grace period for late comers? More time?
2. When the group exceeds more then 25 people, should we split into two groups out on the trail? Maybe one of the groups traveling a little faster on the trail? Maybe covering a little longer distance?
3. Can we improve the way we do the Flyers for each Hike? Better map to get you to the meeting place? How? More details on the Hike itself?
4. Should the Hikes be longer or shorter? We do anywhere from 3 miles to 5 miles on each Hike, depending on the special environments we maybe traveling in. (slower pace in hilly country, faster in Meadow country)
5. Should be more official in our Parking lot greetings? officially introduce EVERYONE? Does this put some people on the spot, who would rather get acquainted out on the trail?
6. More faster paced Hikes? Do a Nature style Hike, and then mix in a faster, just Hiking style Hike?

Let us know what you would like to see in 2012. How do we make our group better and how do we get a chance to give as many people the outdoor experiences they desire?

  1. How about GPS-navigation-friendly location for the parking lot? Android can handle latitude/longitude and suspect TomTom and others can, as well. Reverse geolocation can give a reasonably close street address, at least to get to the turn-off from the road, too.
